For years I’ve worked with websites, installed servers, hosted them in closets or data centers, configured firewalls, and deployed them in the cloud but I never worked my way around to hosting a proper personal web site. It’s time I got it together, so I am moving to WordPress, given its best-of-breed blogging and content management features. I hope this will be a refreshing experience and I would like to invite you along for a new journey.

The initial deployment is on Azure using a Bitnami virtual machine image. Azure seems to pretty much leave you on your own after the install and getting log-in the first time is left as an exercise for the user. Fortunately, Bitnami’s documentation is quite good and points you in the right direction so I deleted the default user, set up my own and started using the administrative interface to configure WordPress, update plugins, etc.

I picked an arbitrary theme I liked from the WordPress gallery and replaced the default content with something more usable, subject to tweaking over time. This entry is simply the first in what I hope will be many and categorized under ‘Progress’. I expect to put site update and information about my changes in this section so that they can easily be found. Future posts will be more concerned with technology, development or architectural concerns and a the bigger picture.

Please, feel free to comment. I will try to respond as soon as possible…
